Perimeter Air

Perimeter Air: new door frame
Client: Perimeter Air
– Winnipeg, MB, Canada
Upgrade with low disruption: Winnipeg’s Richardson International (YWG) is a busy airport and Perimeter Air is a big part of that. Their decades-old T-5 main hangar needed a new door because of ongoing mechanical and functional problems with their old tilt-up door, not to mention the lack of insulation and protection from Winnipeg’s frigid winters. Still, daily operations had to carry on with minimal disruption.
Engineering challenge The new door had to significantly reduce energy costs and improve operational efficiency AND allow the old door to continue functioning while the new door was being built and installed.
Custom solution The central problem of minimal disruption was solved by building the new door in front of the old one. A new external steel framework was able to support a newer, more robust hangar door system. The customized door system delivered several key improvements:
  • An advanced rail drainage system to prevent water and ice accumulation.
  • Modern motorized drive system for smoother operation and adding automation features.
  • Compliance with current safety standards with integrating advanced locking systems and emergency systems.
